‘Bangabandhu was illegal PM’

LONDON: Exiled BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman has questioned the legality of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

In a meeting attended by the civil society members held at London Westminster hall organized by UK BNP on Tuesday evening exiled BNP leader speaking as the chief guest has raised questions that though it was told on behalf of the war time government that after framing the constitution of the Independent Bangladesh regular government would be formed.

But the fact is this that Sheikh Mujib had captured the Prime Minister’s post forcibly as his daughter (Sheikh Hasina) now has captured that post of Premiership.

The criticism has tormented the whole country after Tarique’s controversial claim about late president Ziaur Rahman as the first president of Bangladesh.

Tarique ignoring that criticism has been loudly saying that Sheikh Mujib was the first illegal Prime Minister while his daughter similarly illegal Prime Minister at present.

He questioned had Bangabandhu the first President then why he became Prime Minister after Independence?

He also criticized that Bangabandhu had returned to Bangladesh with Pakistani passport which could have been avoided.

Tarique also remarked that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not want the Independence of Bangladesh.

With UK BNP president Shayesta Chowdhury Kuddus in the chair, the gathering was also addressed by party International affairs secretary Mohidur Rahman, Deputy Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets councilor Ohid Ahmed, Dr. Hasnat M Hossain, Dr. M.A. Malek, businessman Mukim Ahmed and K.M. Abu Taher Chowdhury.

Tarique criticized the adverse reaction expressed by Awami League after he claimed Ziaur Rahman as the first president and said that they are showing most shameful attitude at his (Tarique) disclosure even by Sheikh Hasina and other leaders in different places including the parliament.

In the opinion of Tarique, Zia was the first President of Bangladesh and this is the reality. But Awami League without any proof and documentary evidence are trying to create confusion.

Tarique  vehemently criticized the remarks made by Sheikh Hasina that during liberation war Ziaur Rahman was an employee with the salary of only Taka four hundred. Tarique told that Sheikh Hasina has insulted all the freedom fighter by making this comment.

Tarique advised the Prime Minister to seek apology to the freedom fighters and withdraw her comments.
