KHULNA: The second International Conference on Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (ICCESD), sponsored by Bashundhara Cement, a sister concern of Bashundhara Group, began on Friday at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) president professor Dr Shamim Z Basunia inaugurated the three-day workshop as chief guest.  
 
KUET vice chancellor Professor Muhammad Alamgir was in the chair. Stamford University Bangladesh vice chancellor, Professor M Hannan Firoz Ahmed and Civil Engineer SM Shahidullah were the other notable participants.   

The highlights of the conference are three key note sessions, 23 technical sessions and presentation of as many as 171 technical papers.      
 
Conference chairperson Dr Abul Bashar delivered the inaugural speech and conference general secretary Professor Muhammad Harunur Rashid congratulated participants.    

Bashundhara Cement Head-of-Plant Nabarun Kumar Saha, Additional Chief Engineer Sirajul Haque, Assistant General Manager (Technical support) Saroz Kumar Barua, Assistant Executive (Divisional) Sheikh Ameer Hamza, Regional Sales Manager Ahaduzzaman Prodhan and Area Manager Amarnath represented Bashundhara Group at the programme.
