DHAKA: Six high-officials of state-run Sonali Bank, including General Manager (GM) of Head Office Ahsan Iqbal and Rajshahi GM KM Afzal Hossain, were suspended over the incident of looting money from its Adamdighi branch of Bogra.
Regarding the matter, letters are being sent by the head office of Sonali Bank to the concerned officers on Wednesday.
The authorities concerned, in a special meeting held on Tuesday night, took the decision of suspension on the charge of negligence in discharging their respective duties.
The other officials are- Bank’s Bogra branch Deputy General Manager (DGM) Abdus Samad, Manager of Adamdighi branch and two officers of the branch.
Sources said that Bank and Financial institution department of Finance Ministry formed a five-member investigation committee to probe into the money looting incidents in Bogra and Kishoreganj.
Besides, Bangladesh Bank sent a show cause notice to Manager of the Sonali Bank, also Chief Executive Officer, Prodip Kumar.
Earlier on Saturday night, robbers looted Tk 32.50 lakh from a Sonali Bank branch in Bogra by digging a tunnel into the bank’s vault.
