DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, on Tuesday sought more German cooperation for the development of Bangladesh.
“The government is working relentlessly in ensuring better life for the people of Bangladesh. So, we seek more support of the German government, people and the politicians to this end,” she said.
The premier came up with the plea when a five-member delegation of German parliament paid a courtesy call on her at her office in the morning.
Chairperson of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development of German Parliament Dagmar G Wohrl led the team.
After the meeting, Special Assistant to the premier Mahbubul Haque Shakil was briefing journalists.
Sheikh Hasina said her previous government had to face global economic recession along with fighting militancy and terrorism.
She also recalled the German assistance in rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The German parliamentary delegation leader said there is a long-lasting partnership between Bangladesh and Germany in the fields of socio-economic and political fields.
Media Advisor to the PM Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar and German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Albrecht Conze were among others present on the occasion.
