SIRAJGANJ: The milk suppliers of Sirajganj Milk Vita put blockade on the Dhaka-Nagarbari and Dhaka-Borga highways on Wednesday to realize their nine-point demands including increase of milk price and lift of quota system in purchase.
Their agitation stopped traffic movement on the highway and created jam on the both sides, witnesses and police said.
Hundreds of milk suppliers gathered in front of the Baghabari Milk Vita under Shahjadpur upazila and put blockade that also stopped petroleum supply in the North Bengal from Bagabari depot of three oil companies—Padma, Meghna and Jamuna—till noon.
Supply of milk and milk products also remained suspended during the agitation.
Later, the agitators held a rally at the tank lorry terminal when local lawmaker Chayan Islam and Member of Parliament from Ullahpara Mohammad Shafiqual Islam requested them to withdraw the blockade.
The suppliers gave an ultimatum to realize their demands by August 8 or they would stop milk supply.
