FIAB for ‘immediate combing operation’

DHAKA: The Feed Industries Association Bangladesh (FIAB) on Thursday called for ‘immediate combing operation’ at the factories that manufacture poultry feed with toxic tannery in the city’s Hazaribagh area.

FIAB leaders came up with the call at a special meeting, held at its office in Gulshan area of the city.

FIAB president Moshiur Rahman said, “Since the last few years the poultry leaders had been requesting the government to take necessary steps to shut down the factories at Hazaribagh.”

“On March 2014, one such factory was sealed and fined by a mobile court driving operation against food adulteration. Another drive was made in the same areas few years back. The High Court also issued a rule for the same but the factories are still running,” he added

Moshiur said, “Therefore, to close the deadly operations by those feed mills and to uproot them completely a combing operation is a must.”

FIAB secretary Khondker Monsur Hossain said, “At least 20 to 25 factories in the city’s Hazaribagh and Gabtoli areas are producing poultry feed with toxic tannery wastes. The small farmers are being cheated by purchasing such low-cost adulterate feed causing high intense health hazards.”

“Therefore to ensure consumer rights and to secure their health we must uproot these so called feed mills without wasting time,” he added.
