DHAKA: The uncertainty in investment has not removed though little political chaos after January 5 national polls. Political consensus must for improvement investment environment in the country.
Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) executive director Professor Mustafizur Rahman commented these on Sunday at a press briefing on the economy of Bangladesh at BRAC Centre Inn in city’s Mohakhali area.
He said the opportunity of consensus has gradually been narrowed. An election may not be held over night. But the doors for discussion should keep open.
Mustafizur Rahman urged the government to bring the flow of investment back.
He further said that the infrastructural weakness should be removed. Otherwise, the gross domestic product (GDP) will not be increased.
If we want to make it a middle income country by 2021, then we need a GDP from eight to 10 percent.
A taskforce should be formed to implement the reforms.
CDP research director Dr Fahmida Khatun, additional research director Dr Khandaker Golam Moazzem and research fellow Touhidul Islam Khan were among others present at the press meet.
