DHAKA: The government Thursday proposed a Tk 250,506 crore budget for 2014-15, fixing the target of attaining a higher GDP growth of 7.3 percent in the financial year.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith proposed the budget with Tk 67,552 crore deficit which is 5 percent of GDP and over a fourth of the budgetary outlay.
The finance minister placed the 43rd national budget in parliament, expressing his hopes to be able to steer the economy out of the present pressures and problems.
Muhith started giving his budget speech titled “Beckoning A New Era of Prosperity” at 3:30pm.
The revenue target of the budget has been fixed at Tk 182,954 crore.
Of the revenue, Tk 1,49,720 crore is expected from NBR tax revenue, Tk 5,572 crore from non-NBR tax revenue and Tk 27,662 crore from non-tax revenue.
Earlier in the day, the cabinet in a meeting at the Sangsad Bhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair approved the budget, which is about 16 percent bigger than that of the outgoing fiscal year.
