RAJSHAHI: Law enforcers, during a drive against spreading formalin on mangoes, and businessmen locked into a clash at Baneswar upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
Businessmen threw brick bats aiming the law enforcers.
Police fired around 15 rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
During the time, businessmen vandalized two passenger carrying buses. A photo-journalist was also injured.
Businessmen blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway at Baneswar for a half an hour but additional law enforcers dispersed them, reported banglanews correspondent.
Officer-in-Charge of Puthia Thana SM Bajlur Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
So far, police have seized 80 maunds mangoes and fined Tk 18,000 to various businessmen of the area, OC added.
OC Bajlur Rashid also said, “Police has been working to raise awareness about the bad effects of formalin mixed fruits on the health.”
We have declared “zero tolerance” to stop the use of these unhealthy chemicals in food items.
