DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman on Thursday asked the directors of the private banks to do their duties with trust and transparency.
The BB boss was addressing the inauguration ceremony of a workshop titled “Corporate Good Governance’ at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city.
Atiur said directors of the banks and the financial institutions will have to perform duty in a more transparent way and managing directors of those banks will have to opportunity to run the bank independently.”
“Good governance in the finance sector will not be ensured by enforcing laws rather the people involved in the sector will have interest in this regards,” he added.
On the state-owned banks, Atiur said, “These banks have several problems; sometimes, it can’t be understood who will manage these problems, for this reasons, good governance is not being ensured in the state-owned banks.”
Private-owned AB Bank Limited organized the workshop where directors from different banks and financial institutions have taken part.
