Banglalink upholds World Blood Donor Day

DHAKA: Recently, in honour of the World Blood Donor Day, Banglalink joined hands with Quantum Foundation to organise a Blood Donation Campaign among its employees at the Banglalink head office, Tiger’s Den, throughout the day.

This year the theme of the World Blood Donor Day is “Safe blood for saving mothers.”

The objective of the blood drive on Banglalink’s part is to empower their employees to become active, caring empathic citizens through donating blood and leading a healthy lifestyle. The aim is also to raise awareness and spread the culture of blood donation. Quantum foundation collected the blood.

In reality, despite there being many willing donors, the demand for blood is never truly met and the availability of the right type of blood at the right time is always a challenge.

Blood drives such as this raise awareness about this, while also reiterating the fact that according to science, blood donation is beneficial to the donor’s health. Findings have shown that donating blood reduces the risk of heart attacks, cancer and even helps burn extra calories.

Mr. Ziad Satara, CEO, Banglalink said, “We do this blood drive among our employees every year, and the idea is to foster a culture of empathy and social responsibility.

At the same time we also hope that they take away the message of a healthy lifestyle from this. I hope through this humble gesture we can inspire other potential donors to come forward and be a part of it. Someday the gratification of saving someone near and dear to you could be yours.”

Banglalink is the 2nd largest mobile telecom operator in Bangladesh with over 29 million subscribers, and a subsidiary of Netherlands based Vimpelcom Lt.
