Govt emphasizes investment, production

DHAKA: Government is putting importance on private investment as well as increase of mass production, said finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.

He said at the maiden conference of Bangladesh Economic Forum (BEF) at Radisson in city on Saturday.

The conference upheld the ‘Vision 2030: Framework for Economic Policy Making and Strategy Formulation in A Pluralistic Democracy’ slogan.

The minister said that Bangladesh economy has greatly advanced in past two decades.

There are many potentialities in this sector, he added.

The incumbent government has been working to make country’s economy advanced by emphasizing private investment as well as increasing of mass production, he remarked.

We are giving priority on the development of electricity and manpower. They will help increase private investment and production, he added.

According to Muhith, political stability is very important in increasing production. He hoped that he would work for increasing private investment in the coming years.

Bangladesh Economic Association former president Mahiuddin Alamgir chaired the program, attended by Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, deputy governor SK Sur, former governor Salehuddin Ahmed, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Sussex University research professor Michael Lipton, economist Khalequzzaman and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) managing director Dr Fayekuzzaman, among others.
