DHAKA: Garment owners’ organization Bangladesh Garment Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has started giving wages to the workers of five Tuba Group factories on the second-day.

The process has started at 9:45 am on Thursday from BGMEA building in city’s Karwan Bazar area.

BGMEA president Atiqul Islam said to the banglanews that 16 teams have been working in five temporary booths to pay the salaries and the authorities also monitoring the situation intensively.

He said they started to pay the salaries on Wednesday and will continue till the workers came to receive their dues and a total of 595 workers received their wages.

Like that, the workers could take their salaries when they would come on Thursday.

But only a few workers came to take the wage as they have been confined in the Tuba Factory at Hossain Market in Badda.

Two hundred and ninety six workers from Tuba Textiles, 384 from Bukshan Garments, 121 from Mita Design, 353 from Taif Design and 286 from Tuba Fashion were listed for wages.

TK2.36 crore will be disbursed for a total of 1,427 workers of the factories.

BGMEA has managed the money to pay the wages of May and June for the workers.

Besides, some workers alleged that the workers union members and outsiders threatened them not to take salaries.
