Sonali Bank files case against Hallmark

DHAKA: The Sonali Bank Limited authorities on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against 33 persons, including the Hallmark Group MD Tanvir Mahmud and some of the former officials of Sonali Bank’s Hotel Sheraton (currently Ruposhi Bangla Hotel) branch, to realize Tk 755 crore.

Some 33 people, including Hallmark MD Tanvir Mahmud, Chairman Jesmin Islam, former Sonali Bank MD Humayun Kabir, DMD Mainul Hossain, GM Mir Maidur Rahman and Nani Gopal were made accused of the case.

Deputy General Manager (DGM) of the state-run bank M Abul Hossain filed the case with the court of Dr M Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan, the First Joint District Judge of Dhaka.

Abul Hossain said, “The case was filed to realize a loan of Tk 755.44 crore.” “This is the biggest case in the country to realize loan as the loan scam was also the biggest scam,” he added.

Advocate Hosne Ara would move for the case in the court, he added.
