DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Employment in building a developed nation is the great challenge, opined finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.
The minister, in his speech as chief guest, told audience at a conference held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University in city on Sunday.
Non-government organization called Eminence arranged the 4-day ‘Bangladesh Conference: Sustainable Development-2014, Mission 100 Years’, to be concluded on August 19.
Muhith said that employment is the great challenge in building a happy and prosperous nation.
Advices from the development experts and researchers are needed in creating more employment in different sectors.
Mentioning Bangladesh’s gradual advancement in human development index, the finance minister commented that the index did not show proper information regarding the country’s development.
According to him, Bangladesh has developed more.
‘I have visited country’s remote areas. The development, I have seen there, has not been reflected in the index,’ the finance minister remarked.
Dhaka University vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech as special guest said that sustainable development is necessary in building a prosperous nation.
‘We should be careful in using our natural resources. We should keep the surplus resources for our upcoming generations’, he added.
The conference convener Dr Kazi Khalikuzzaman conducted the program.
