DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman asked the authorities concerned to set up a helipad on the top of the 30-storey central bank building in city’s Motijheel area.
The central bank chief made the disclosure in the fire-extinguishing exercise program on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Bank jointly with Fire Service and Civil Defense arranged the exercise.
The BB governor admitted the limitation of the fire-extinguishing process as the fire fighters can not reach more than 17 stories of the building.
So, a helipad should be built on the top of the 30-storey building, he added.
He observed the experimental rescue operation of the fire fighters.
Atiur Rahman also emphasized the importance of this sort of fire-extinguishing exercise.
He said that the fire incidents are increasing day by day. As a result, many people are losing their lives.
Moreover, many valuable assets are burning down, he added.
He assured the fire fighters that Bangladesh Bank will help fire service financially to get more modern equipments.
He urged to the commercial banks to come forward in this mission.
Bangladesh Bank’s deputy governor Abu Hena Mohammad Razi Hasan and executive director Nirmal Chandra Bhakta, among other bank officials, were present in the exercise program.
