Special investment zone for Japan

DHAKA: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed categorically said that the government is working to give Japan a special zone for investment in Bangladesh.

He made the disclosure to the journalists at the ministry on Thursday noon.

Earlier in the day, minister held a meeting with a Japanese delegation led by their Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Norihiko Ishiguro.

Tofail Ahmed said, “Japan is most reliable friend of Bangladesh and a development partner. The amount of their current help to us is around US $10 billion.”

The Minister added, “They have been giving us duty free market access. We have decided to give them special zone because they are interested to invest more in Bangladesh.”

AL senior leader also said, “We have chosen eight areas. Any one of them will be given to them.”

Minister also thanked Japan for their continuous help to Bangladesh.
