138 RMG workers lose jobs for protest

ASHULIA (DHAKA): The authorities of Designer Jeans, a readymade garment (RMG) factory, at Beron in Ashulia near Dhaka, sacked its 138 workers over protesting unfair salary and demanding workers union on Saturday.

Moreover, the authorities also filed cases against 150 workers mentioning 110 names of charge of vandalism, thefts and looting.

However, police is also continuing raids in different parts of Ashulia Industrial Area from then on to nab the workers.

Ashulia Thana Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Badrul Alam said that Sharif Hossain, an administrative officer of Designer Jeans filed the case on Friday night.

But, no worker has been detained yet, he added.

OC informed media that the garment factory was declared closed over workers’ strike protesting unfair salary as well as demanding workers union.

On the other hand, different RMG factory workers, including Adam Garment at Savar’s Chourangi Super Market and Prova Textile in the municipal area, are showing demonstrations on the day for due salaries.
