DHAKA: The World Bank (WB) wants to set up a deep sea port at Kutubdia apart from helping Bangladesh in the development of Chittagong Port.
However, the WB will offer the Bangladesh government after they make a feasibility study in this regard.
World Bank Country Director Johannes Zutt made the disclosure in a meeting with Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal at planning commission office in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Moreover, the organization will also help Bangladesh improving the efficiency of the country’s largest sea port in handling increasing volume of cargo.
Nevertheless, the planning minister said the cargo handling capacity of Chittagong port is in need to improve really as the country’s economy is gaining momentum, after meeting with the WB official.
Mentioning the country’s current economical growth is average six per cent a year, he added that the country’s sea ports will face problems when the economic growth hits seven percent.
He said that the port’s capacity should be increased calculating the growth rate up to nine percent.
