DHAKA: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday said Japanese entrepreneurs are keen to invest in transport, infrastructure, power and energy and garment sectors for increasing the bilateral trade with Bangladesh.
The Japanese premier was addressing the business personalities of both Bangladesh and Japan in a city hotel on Saturday.
Shinzo Abe said Bangladesh is an emerging economy. So, the Japanese government plans to promote investment in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is also an important partner of Japan in South Asia, he added.
He told his audience that Bangladesh garment export to Japan is on the rise for relaxation of the Rules of Origin (RoO) by the Japanese government under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) of Japan.
In 2011-12 fiscal year Bangladesh’s garment export to Japan increased by 38.8 percent from the previous year for having the trade benefit, he added.
