DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday appreciated banks’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in education sector.
He was addressing a scholarship giving ceremony of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SIBL) at Officers’ Club in city in the morning.
Muhith said, the CSR means some parts of a person’s wealth is donated for the welfare of human beings.
It is a social and humanitarian work. Haji Muhammad Mohsin began this sort of works in 1807, he added.
A total of 500 students, who passed the SSC and the HSC examinations in 2013, were given stipends at the function.
The SSC passed students were given Tk 20,000 each and HSC students got Tk 25,000 each.
Bangladesh Bank deputy director SK Sur Chowdhury, SIBL chairman AK Azad, and its managing director Farman R Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the event.
