FROM UN HEADQUARTERS: Norwegian Prime Minster Erna Solberg gave thanks to her Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina for the South Asian country’s achievement in the information and technology (IT) sector.
Hasina also asked Erna to come up with more investment from Norway on the IT sector of Bangladesh.
The two premiers had a bilateral meeting on the sideline of the 69th United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the UN Dr A K Abdul Momen disclosed the matter to banglanews after the meeting.
Hasina also invited Erna to visit Bangladesh, which the Norwegian premier accepted and assured her counterpart of visiting the country at her convenient time.
At the meeting, Hasina disclosed her commitments and efforts to build a digital Bangladesh.
She called for Norwegian assistance in preventing river erosion and investment on ship breaking industry.
Erna assured Hasina of investing more on Bangladesh’s IT sector to create more employment.
She also praised Hasina’s leadership in empowering women in Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque, and Bangladesh Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the UN Dr A K Abdul Momen, accompanied Hasina at during the meeting.
