DHAKA: Bashundhara LP Gas Limited (BLGL), one of the subsidiaries of country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has moved for a training-cum-awareness raising campaign on safe use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to avoid accident.
The campaign titled ‘Nirapad Nibas’ (Safe House) will begin on October 15 with the slogan ‘LP gas baboharer training nin, nirapod thakun chirodin’.
BLGL officials made the disclosure at a press conference in the Conference Lounge of the National Press Club in the city on Thursday morning.
BLGL will organize colorful functions under the campaign at different districts and upazilas. LP gas users, especially the housewives will be covered under the campaign.
This awareness raising campaign came after several LP gas cylinder explosions had reported across the country recently, causing many people injured.
At the function, Professor Dr Syed Sultana Razia, head of Chemical Engineering department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, revealed the different technical sides of LP gas.
Citing the existing demands of LP gas at household works is one lakh tone, she said, this demand would increase in future; and the issue of safety would also have to keep in mind as demand increases.
Sultana came up with some suggestions for the LP gas users include regular checking of cylinder whether the cylinder is made up properly or not, fill the cylinder no more than 85 percent, not to keep the cylinder close to fireplace and switch off the cylinder properly.
He told the journalists, ST Jamil, former petroleum consultant at Libya’s National Oil Corporation, said, the reserve of gas may be finished in next 12/13 years if the existing gas usage continues and dependency on LP gas will increase in future.
Jamil praised the BLGL’s initiative to raise awareness on the LP gas.
BLGL general manger (operation and planning) Zahidul Islam said that some dishonest traders are supplying LG gas in low cost using the Bashundhara’s cylinder, that are causing incidents.
Our first objective is to supply quality products and service. For this reason, ‘Narapad Nibash’ program will be observed across the country in public interest from October 15 after Eid-ul-Adha.

Experts suggest that to keep the cylinder closed whether it is filled up with gas or vacant, always use safety cap after use, keep regulator’s switch off after use of gas, keep the cylinder in safe distance from direct sunlight, rain and heat, avoid nylon clothes during cooking, and never keep the cylinder in a closed palace.
