BGB deployment in 43 spots

FENI: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-4 acting director Major Shamim Iftekhar said that the BGB check posts will be active in 43 spots along the borders to stop hide smuggling.

Moreover, the Feni district administration has taken some measures to stop hide smuggling as traffickers usually use several points including Dharmapur, Parshuram, Chhagalnaiya and Fulgazi frontiers in the district.

Panchgachia is considered as the largest cattle hide market in greater Noakhali region from where traders collect around one lakh pieces of hides every year.

Panchgachia hide trader Lokman Hossain and Nizam Uddin told banglanews that they used to collect hides from retailers and this year they expect to buy hides in the same way.

Following Eid-ul-Azha, the hide market has become crowded as usual but some corrupt traders have started harassing the retailers in many ways.

Sources said that a syndicate has already been formed to purchase hides in a lower price by spreading rumors regarding the hide market.

Cheating the retailers, later, the syndicate members buy the cattle hides in a price lower than the market.

However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Comilla Sector Commander Colonel Zillul Haque has already declared awards for helping law enforcers to hold the smugglers.
