Commodities price still higher for festivals

DHAKA: The supply of the essential goods has decreased in city. Besides, the prices of garlic and ginger are up in wholesale markets.

The whole sellers said the prices of essential goods have increased as the ports are closed for the Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Azha festivals.

The prices could be raised in future, alarmed the traders.

But they also hoped that the prices could be downed between 4 and 5 days after Eid.

After visiting Karwan Bazar in city on Tuesday, it is revealed that the essentials are being sold in higher prices.

Garlic was sold at Tk 65-70 per kg, gingers at Tk 160-170, local onions at Tk 40 and Indian Onions at Tk 37 in wholesale markets.

In city’s Plassey Barrack Bazar, the prices of tomatoes at Tk 220 per kg, cucumbers at Tk 40-45, carrots at Tk 80, brinjals at Tk 65, chilies at Tk 120, and ladies fingers at Tk 50.

However, the prices of broiler chicken deceased at Tk 140 per kg.

But price of some of the grocery products remain unchanged.

Soybean oil is being sold at Tk 115 per litter while the 5-liter bottle at Tk 550-560.
