Specialized banks backward in remittance earning

DHAKA: The banking sector of the country is going ahead in remittance earning but the specialized banks are falling behind, which are neglected by the concern authorities.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) sources said the rate of remittance earning is very low from four specialized banks -- Bangladesh Krishi Bank, BASIC Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RKUB).

Among them Bangladesh Development Bank and Bangladesh Development Bank do not earn any remittance, the BB sources informed.

In June, a total of $124.60 crore came as remittance. Of those, only $1.60 crore came from those four banks.

However, most of the remittance was earned by Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

In July, $17.91 million came from the four specialist banks.

In August, Bangladesh Krishi Bank earned $1.41 crore and BACIC Bank earned only $1 lakh. Though, in this month remittance of $117.40 crore came in Bangladesh.

Executive director and spokesperson of BB M Mahfuzur Rahman said the specialized banks may be unable to fulfill the demanded service of the customers.
