DHAKA: Germany is keen to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a view to assisting in the garment sector of Bangladesh.
A visiting German team expressed their eagerness when they called on commerce minister Tofail Ahmed at the secretariat on Sunday.
After the meeting, the commerce minister briefed the media that Germany has shown their interest to sign a deal for the development of Bangladesh’s garment sector.
According to the minister, Germany wants to sign the deal by six weeks and also wants to survey the existing socio-environmental condition in RMG sector.
He further told journalists that Germany is interested to buy more Bangladeshi goods with a higher price.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker also expressed hope that the higher price of goods would meet the interest of the workers.
He further expected that Germany would be the largest single business partner of Bangladesh in near future.
German parliamentary state secretary Hans-Joachim Fuchtel led the visiting team.
