DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman Sunday expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the central bank’s Sadarghat branch.
The governor gave vent to his resentment while visiting the BB branch at the busy river port in the capital.
He directed the bank employees and officials to perform their duties “with sincerity, eliminating all mismanagement”, said BB sources.
The branch officials and employees, on their part, handed the governor a 10-point demand that boils down to one point: increase pay and perks.
In their demands they ask for removing what they say payment discrimination, reintroducing special increment, removing manpower crisis, implementing higher individual pay scale, creating working environment, and making recruitment in dependant quota.
The governor assured them of considering logical ones of their demands.
The branch, located on the bank of the Buriganga, is housed in the oldest and first own building of the central bank.
The then governor of East Bengal, Mohammad Amir Uddin Ahmed, had inaugurated the building on January 20, 1956.
Executive Director of BB Abu Hena Mohammad Razi Hasan and General Manager Mohammad Jahangir Alam accompanied him during the visit.
