DHAKA: Germany's parliamentarian state secretary of the federal ministry for economic cooperation and development Hans-Joachim Fuchtel said that Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector has a great future and is in an excellent position to expand in the global market.
He made the remark on Friday after a three-day visit to Bangladesh, reports fibre2fashion.com.
Hans-Joachim, however, visited Bangladesh to get further insights into the current state of the Bangladesh RMG sector, the report added.
He, moreover, during his visit, met with Tofael Ahmed, the commerce minister here and different factory owners along with union representatives.
During the meeting, the Bangladesh commerce minister also underlined that the country is on the right path towards better factory safety and improved working conditions in the RMG sector.
Acknowledging this, the German official emphasized that Germany is not only advocating for worker’s rights and safety standards, but that it has been a reliable partner for Bangladesh in terms of improvements in the RMG sector for many years.
Furthermore, Hans-Joachim said that with their development cooperation, Germany will continue to support Bangladeshi companies and the Government of Bangladesh.
Nevertheless, RMG sector is providing employment for over 4.2 million workers in Bangladesh through about 3500 garments.
