SAVAR: President of VF Corporation, a US buyer organization, Angela Langrige Wednesday underscored maintaining good industrial relations between owners and workers to save the readymade garment sector of Bangladesh.
“We have to consider the interest of the workers. As a buyer organization, we are always conscious about wages and other facilities of the workers," said Angela to journalists after visiting the garment industries in Ashulia, recently ravaged by labour unrest over pay-hike issue.
A five-member team of V F Corporation, one of the biggest garment-buying outfits in the USA, led by Angela Langrige is now in Bangladesh exploring prospects for expanding investment in the sector.
The other members of the team are Vice-president Tom Worldran, France Ven Gilend, Viet Gaicy and Roy Porter.
“USA wants to invest more in the readymade garment sector of Bangladesh. We are here to assess the probability of further investment and observe the environment of the workplace," he said.
The team visited a garment factory of Hameem Group in the Ashulia apparel hub and expressed their satisfaction over the environment of the factory.
