DHAKA: Food and Disaster Management Ministry has decided to purchase 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat and 30,000 MT boiled rice through international tender.
A letter signed by Food and Disaster Management Secretary Barun Dev was sent to the cabinet division Wednesday for approval from the cabinet committee on purchase.
The cabinet committee would take final decision in this regard Thursday, a competent source told banglanews24.com.bd.
Sources said the food department has taken the decision to fulfill the target of importing 750,000 mt wheat and 300,000 mt rice for the current 2010-2011 fiscal year.
Total cost of the wheat purchase would be Tk 92.22 crore at the rate of $265 per metric tonne while the rice import would cost over Tk 95.89 crore at the rate of $459.27 per metric tonne.
“The money will come from the budget allocation for purchase of wheat and rice,” said one official.
