DHAKA: The government on Tuesday extended the deadline for removing stockpiles of inflammable chemicals in factories and storehouses from the residential areas up to September 30.
Industry Minister Dilip Barua set the new timeline in a joint meeting of Industries Ministry and Bangladesh Chamber and Industries (BCI) at the Industry Ministry.
“The government wants to keep the trade and industries sector out of danger,” he said.
The previous deadline set by the government for removing stockpiles expired on Tuesday.
However, the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) recommended that the deadline be extended by another month.
In the meeting, traders of the area claimed that they have already removed 90 percent of the inflammable chemicals from factories and storehouses.
They also demanded establishment of four storehouses in four zones of Mirpur, Gazipur, Demra and Karaniganj.
The meeting was attended, among others, by State Minister for Law Advocate Qamrul Islam and Mostafa Jalal Mahiuddin MP.
