DHAKA: Fonterra has said it was working with the New Zealand Government to assure Bangladesh authorities that the small quantity of product it exports to their country is safe.
Fonterra`s group director of communications, Kerry Underhill, said all Fonterra product is safe, including that entering Bangladesh.
"Fonterra is working alongside the NZ Government to ensure that Bangladesh authorities have all the information that they need about the safety and quality of our products," Mr Underhill said in a statement.
Reuters reported from Dhaka on Tuesday that Bangladesh customs authorities had restricted the import of more than 600 tonnes of powdered milk, mainly from Fonterra, pending tests.
Fonterra was caught up in a contamination scare this month after it found bacteria in some of its products that could cause botulism.
In the year to June, Bangladesh imported 20,741 tonnes of milk powder, mainly from Fonterra, Reuters reported.
