DHAKA: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecast that Bangladesh may achieve 5.8 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the upcoming 2013-14 fiscal year.
As per the ADB prediction, the GDP growth is expected to be below 6 percent this fiscal year much lower than the government`s expectation of 7.2 per cent.
ADB Chief Economist Jahid Hossain came up with the observation in a press conference titled ‘The Asian Development Outlook 2013 update’ at ADB Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area on Wednesday.
Jahid Hossain said that the GDP growth would decline in the FY, as both public and private investments have been low centering next general election. Besides, weak industrial activities due to poor gas supply would affect economic growth in Bangladesh.
The press conference was attended by, among others, ADB Country Director to Bangladesh Teresa Kho and Communication Officer Gobinda Bar.
