The Admission and Financial Aid office of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the Orientation program for the incoming students of the Spring 2024 semester on January 18 at the university auditorium in the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka.

Faruque Hassan, President, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Managing Director, Giant Group, attended the program as the Chief Guest.

“There exists a gap between the skills developed at our educational institutions and the industry's demand,” Faruque Hassan said in his Chief Guest’s speech. “While academic knowledge is crucial, practical experiences, internships, and interactions with professionals in your fields of interest are equally important. Real-life training and industry orientation programs can bridge this gap. So, seek out opportunities to apply what you learn in real-world scenarios. BGMEA would gladly extend any collaboration required to IUB for industry orientation programs.”

Didar A Husain, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, said, “Read books that excite you. Never hesitate to question. Your teachers are here to answer your queries. Break the barrier of concern about what others think. You are in a historical institute with altruistic motives. Live up to your full potential to face the challenges of time. Focus on technological soundness to be modern. Enjoy extracurricular activities to grow beyond just academia."

Tanweer Hasan, PhD, Vice Chancellor, IUB, said, “Since last year, IUB has been consistently ranked the top private university in Bangladesh in the AD Scientific Index. This means that we house the top professors in the country with 50% of them having PhDs. It shows that we value meritocracy and that we value the need for creating an environment to foster research. So, get to know your professors. Find out who are getting the research funds and see if you can get exposure in those research projects.”

To the parents, Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB, said, "Your trust is sacred. We are deeply grateful and will do our utmost to ensure your child's development. Our doors are open for any discussion."

Md Anwarul Islam, PhD, Registrar, IUB, conducted a technical session to welcome, inform and present the house rules of the institution to both the freshers and the parents. Prof. Assaduzzaman Khan, PhD, Associate Proctor, talked about compliance of rules and policies, general code of conduct and urged students to experience a free, productive university life.

The Deans of the five schools of IUB were also present at the program. Lima Chowdhury, Director and Head of Admission and Financial Aid, IUB, delivered the welcome remarks. The event was hosted by Priyanka Dey, Assistant Director, Admissions.

The Spring 2024 admission tests' highest-scoring quartet received modest acknowledgments for their achievements. The event concluded with an array of cultural displays, courtesy of the IUB Music Club and the IUB Dance Club. Additionally, the surroundings of the venue were artistically adorned by the creative efforts of the IUB Art Club.
