KHULNA: Some 30 teachers of Khulna University (KU) Thursday resigned from 33 administrative positions protesting insulting director of Fine Arts Institute Professor Dr Afroza Parvin in an academic council meeting.
Chairmen of various departments, students’ affairs director, hall provosts and assistant provosts were among the resigners.
On January 18, acting head of Development Studies Department Professor Dr M Mostafa Sarwar raised question about the legality of the participation of Dr Afroza Parvin in academic council meeting and demanded to stop the proceedings of the meeting.
On the next day, Professor Dr Afroza Parvin resigned from the post of director of Fine Arts Institute.
Later on Thursday evening, some 30 teachers resigned from administrative positions claiming that Dr Afroza Parvin was demeaned in the academic council meeting.
Professor Dr Afroza Parvin said such behaviour in the presence of vice-chancellor is not expected at all and this is why she resigned from the post.
Registrar of KU Dr Molla Amir Hossain said he was not at his office when the teachers submitted their resignation papers.
He added that he can tell about the number of teachers resigned and the reason only after seeing files.
