Wasim Rayhan Bin Amzad, student of Marketing at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has recently become champion in an amateur kickboxing tournament.
The event, organized by Kings Combat, took place on June 7, 2024, at a gym in Badda, Dhaka. Wasim was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding performance.
Wasim, currently in his 7th semester, won the final with a second-round technical knockout. This was Wasim’s second appearance in a national kickboxing tournament. He previously competed in 2022, where he narrowly lost by points to Muntaha Mumit, Bangladesh's top-ranked wushu fighter.
The recent tournament saw participation from various national-level fighters specializing in different combat arts such as boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). The competition was sponsored by Ultimate Combat Sports. Wasim's victory is particularly noteworthy as amateur kickboxing tournaments with pure kickboxing rules have only been organized twice in Bangladesh.
In addition to his national achievements, Wasim has been offered an opportunity to train and compete in Thailand, reflecting his growing recognition in the combat sports community. He trains rigorously with IUB's self-defense trainers and collaborates with many other Bangladeshi fighters who compete internationally.
