BCL-anti-quota protesters clashes resume

After an hour’s pause, clashes restarted between anti-quota protesters and BCL activists on the University of Dhaka (DU) campus on Monday.

Chase and counter-chases restarted when leaders from the ruling party’s student wing allegedly tried to evict the students, who had helped over a hundred injured protesters reach the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), from the hospital compound.

The clashes spread from in front of DMCH to Doyel Chattar on DU campus. Some students from near the Shahidullah Hall area reported hearing gunshots and crude bomb blasts. Some were spotted being taken to DMCH.

The two opposing parties took position on the road between DMCH and Doyel Chattar.

Earlier, around 4pm, BCL leaders and activists took control of the campus after chasing out the student protesters from different points of the university.

Later, upon learning that the protesting students were staying at DMCH with their injured fellows, the BCL leaders marched towards the hospital area with local weapons.
