RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: The students of Rajshahi University left their halls on Monday morning as the authorities concerned declared the varsity closed for indefinite period after law enforcers and Chhatra League men attacked the demonstrating students.
The authorities decided to vacate all the dormitories of the university and all the students were asked to leave their respective halls by 8:00am Monday.
The decision came from an emergency meeting of the Syndicate of the university held on Sunday evening.
Earlier in the day, over 100 students were injured as police charged batons and fired rubber bullets on the demonstrating students.
Of them, 18 people, including eight journalists sustained rubber bullet wounds, reports banglanews RU correspondent quoting witnesses.
On Thursday, the demonstration started demanding cancellation decision of the university authorities of hiking fee and continuing the evening masters’ courses.
The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, also joined the law enforcers to foil the students` movement, said a competent source of the university.
On the other hand, police held a student for interrogation in this regard. Moreover additional law enforcers were deployed in the campus area.
