DHAKA: State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organized the fourth Harvard Journal Day seminar on ‘Blue Ocean Leadership’, ‘Gap Between Knowing & Doing’, ‘Purpose Driven Leadership’ and ‘Creating a Culture of Quality’ on Saturday.
Vice Chancellor of the SUB Professor Dr IG Chowdhury, advisor to the Business Studies Professor Dr Nurur Rahman, Head of Business Studies Professor Ali Ahsan, Dean of Business Studies Professor Dr M Asharaful Islam Chowdhury discussed on the aforementioned topics accordingly.
President of the Board of Trustee of SUB Dr AM Shamim attended the program as Chief Guest.
The seminar was part of a series of seminars on ‘Harvard Journal Day’ aiming to improve leadership quality. Speakers discussed on different theoretical approaches to leadership dynamics of professional life.
During the discussion on ‘Blue Ocean Leadership, Vice Chancellor Professor IG Chowdhury said, the concept of Blue Ocean Strategy was introduced in 2005 by two INSEAD professors that have drawn much acclaim and attention.
The Blue Ocean Leadership is a concept to add value to the product to capture the market with a new profit dimension.
Professor Dr. Nurur Rahman said gap between knowing & doing is a dilemma which we encounter in our personal, professional, and organizational life.
“If-then-planning” is an approach suggested by some management experts to overcome this dilemma. This approach is similar to ‘contingency planning’ that is being used in business, particularly in marketing.
Professor Ali Ahsan said leaders are the stewards of organizational energy. They recruit, direct, channel, renew, focus and invest energy from all the individual contributors in the service of the corporate mission.
Professor Dr. M Ashraful Islam Chowdhury said that creating a culture of quality is a key component of the management to offer in which employees not only follow quality guidelines but also consistently see others taking quality-focused actions; listen to others talking about quality and feel quality all around.
