Maiden prison academy to be set up

RAJSHAHI: After the waiting of 19 years, the maiden Prison Academy (Training Institute) is expected to be established in Rajshahi.

State Minister for Home Affairs Ministry Asaduzzaman Khan will attend the closing parade of 38th batch as chief guest on the academy parade ground on August 13.

He is also expected to declare the establishment of the academy on the day.

The academy, to be directed by the Rajshahi Central Jail authorities, will be established on the jail premises. At least 250 prison guards would be trained at the proposed academy.

Earlier on April 17, Inspector General of Prison Brigadier General Sayed Iftekhar Uddin visited the academy spot and collected data about the matter.

Rajshahi Central Jail sources said the implementation of the project, which was taken in 1995, became uncertain as the file went under red tape for past 19 years.

Senior Jail Super Shafiqul Islam Khan said the prison guards should be aware about the behavior with the prisoners.

The guards will be trained with research methods besides the theoretical process.
