DHAKA: Education Minster Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday evening termed the private universities “robbers”.

“Majority of the private universities are thieves and robbers; we have been fighting continuously to bring them under rules and regulations,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of moth-long workshop titled “Training Program of Trainers to set up Information Technology Centre in Upazilas” at the auditorium of Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information & Statistics (BANBEIS) in city.

Nurul Islam Nahid said, “Being educated is not enough, efficiency and ICT-based knowledge is also necessary. Otherwise, bigger degrees from universities won’t be fruitful.”

The minister urged the teachers, who took part in the workshop, to teach in a way so that they can be the heralds.

“ICT-based education would have to be inspired more,” he added.

BANBEIS director Kabir Ahmed presided over the function. BANBEIS organized the workshop that will be closed on September 16.
