DHAKA: International Inter-University Photography Exhibition (IIUPE) is going to be begun at Shilpakala Academy in the city from Friday.
The exhibition will remain open from 11:00am to 6:00pm everyday at the National Art Gallery’s Hall-2.
The North-South University Photography Club (NSUPC) is organizing the exhibition.
President of the NSUPC Mahim Rizwan made the disclosure at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city on Wednesday morning.
He told the journalists that some 832 photographers from 197 universities of 35 countries submitted a total of 7,054 photographs for the exhibition. Only some 150 photographs were sorted out to exhibit.
Moreover, 10 photo stories will also be displayed in the exhibition, he added.
Renowned artist Mustafa Manwar will inaugurate the program on that day by giving awards to the selected photographers.
Renowned photographer Abir Abdullah, Shafiqul Alam Kiron, Sawd Al Faisal and Ashraful Awal Mishuk were the judges of the photograph selection segment.
Among others, the North South University vice chancellor (VC) professor Dr Amin Sarker will also join the inaugural program as a special guest.
IIUPE started off as IUPE (Inter University Photography Exhibition) in 2000 by North South University Photography Club as an endeavor, a vision to promote photography among the photography enthusiasts in Bangladesh, according to the organizers.
Then in 2003 IUPE became IIUPE International Inter University Photography Exhibition.
The organizer said at their website that IIUPE was established as the medium through which, promising artists would get a platform to showcase their skills and creativity to the world.
IIUPE not only brings out the hidden talent in people and showcases it, but at the same time, establishes a network between all photography enthusiasts–both professional and amateur, giving them a chance to interact, a chance to learn from each other and a chance to expand their horizons even further.
