CHITTAGONG: Strikers vandalized a teachers’ bus of Chittagong University (CU) in Lalkhan Bazar area of the port city on Thursday morning. No causality was reported.
The attack took place amid the fifth successive days of a strike, enforced by Islami Chhattra Shibir, students’ wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, under the banner of general students, at the university to press for their demands.
Meanwhile, strikers exploded 7 to 8 crude bombs in Sholoshohor area of the city at 8:00, which Sholoshohor police outpost In-Charge Aref Ali told that they are looking into it.
University sources said that the bus, carrying teachers, was going to the city from the campus. On arrival at Lalkhan Bazar, strikers attacked the vehicle. However, none sustained injuries in the attack.
CU proctor Siraj Ud Dowlah told banglanews, classes and exams of the university remain normal.
Academic punishment would be given those who are involved in violence in the banner of general students and action would be taken in the vehicle vandalism incident, the proctor added.
Shibir, allegedly under the banner of general students, has been observing a strike since Saturday demanding to hand over Shahjalal Hall, Suhrawardy Hall and Shah Amanat Hallthe to the legal students.
