DHAKA: A six-week certificate course cum workshop on Bioinformatics began at Department of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering and Molecular Medicine & Bioinformatics of University of Development Alternative (UODA) on Saturday.
The Department of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering and Molecular Medicine & Bioinformatics of University of Development Alternative (UODA) and Bio Bio1 Group jointly organized the workshop, said a press release.
“These Departments have a motto to develop knowledge and skill in Bioinformatics in their students and as well as other students and researchers from different universities and research organizations in the country through this workshop,” the news release added.
Vice Chancellor of UODA Professor Dr Emajuddin Ahamed inaugurated the certificate course. Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammed Rahmatullah, Registrar Professor Dr Iffat Chowdhury, and Chairperson of the departments Professor Dr Rownak Jahan were among others present at the function.
In this advanced era of life sciences, researchers are generating millions of data which is now totally difficult to handle manually. This is why a new discipline has arisen to store and analyze these huge data through tools of bioinformatics.
In a sense, bioinformatics is a complex field involving computer science, biology, mathematics and statistics. To march with international advancement and work in this top most field, it is very essential to improve skills of our students and researchers on programs and tools of bioinformatics.
The course program would be a clarion call to the people of the country, the release added.
