RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: Law enforcers on Thursday detained nine Chhatra Shibir men and recovered locally made weapons while raiding the Lieutenant Selim Hall at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET).

The raid started around 2:00pm and ended around 3:00pm.

Several Chhatra Shibir activists were injured as RUET unit Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked them during the raid.

One of the injured, Rakib, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital under police protection.

Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Thana Alamgir Hossain told banglanews, acting on tip-off, that police raided the hall as Chhatra Shibir activists were gathering for protesting the arrest of general secretary of RUET unit Chhatra Shibir Ahmed Yasir and organizing secretary Mamunur Rashid.

During the raid, RUET unit Chhatra League activists, led by president Raisul Islam Rose and general secretary Tauhidur Rahman, attacked Chhatra Chibir activists and vandalized their rooms.

Meanwhile, they hindered and threatened journalists from taking photos of vandalized rooms.

However, OC Alamgir Hossain also said they recovered stones, iron rods, banners of Shibir, publishing equipments and a trunk.

Earlier in the morning, police detained general secretary of RUET unit Chhatra Shibir Ahmed Yasir and organizing secretary Mamunur Rashid as they asked to stop a program of Civil Engineering department as the Jamaat called hartal is underway.
