DHAKA: Students demonstrated in the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Friday in protest against the decision abolishing second time admission chance.
Several hundred students gathered on the campus at around 11.00pm and shunted slogan against the decision.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Dhaka University authority announced that the admission seekers will not be allowed to appear in the test for the second time in the University.
University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique said that the university authority will not change the decision.
The students said that they got only 22 days for preparation after publishing the result of HSC examination.
Many students even did not applied in other universities in the hope of second chance but now it is sad news for them.
Some leftist student organization leaders also joined the students to meet their demand.
The law enforcers barricaded the students while they tried to bring a procession heading to Shahbagh.
Many students and guardians claimed that little time for preparation, calculator prohibition, introducing first time elective English and other new rules are responsible for less success this year.
They also hoped to have a second chance to appear in the admission test.
AAMS Arefin Siddique said that we have concerned about the students of the country not a particular batch.
The VC also defended their decision saying they have taken the move to ensure fair chance for all students and make sure that no seat remains vacant.
Moreover, the DU authorities have relaxed the rules of ‘qualification’ in getting admitted to the English Department as only two were ‘eligible’ for this department this year.
