CHITTAGONG: The demonstrating students of Chittagong University Saturday laid a siege to the Administrative Building of the varsity in protest against the recent tuition-fee hike.
Earlier, the protestors locked four departments of the University demanding withdrawal of punishment against them.
Thousands of students staged a rally and bought out procession ignoring bad weather, witnesses said.
Examinations of some departments were held though classes remained closed for the demo.
Proctor of the University Dr Jasimuddin Chowdhury told banglanews24.com.bd that the administrative activities were normal though the students took position in front of the building.
"We opened the locks of some departments and classes and examinations were held," he said.
Earlier in a press meet on July 29, the students announced an indefinite strike halting academic and administrative activities on the campus.
Meanwhile, the university authorities in a meeting Monday expelled a student for two years and issued show-cause notices to five others on charge of assaulting two teachers during the agitation.
On March 13, 2009, the University authorities banned all kinds of political activities, rally and procession on the campus for keeping the situation peaceful.
