SUST places 1st & 3rd in ACM-ICPC regional contest

DHAKA: A team from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has placed first in ACM-ICPC (ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest) Asia regional, Dhaka site online contest.

Taiwan placed 2nd while another team of SUST became 3rd in the contest.

A total of 135 teams from 72 universities and different IT institutes participated in this online contest from 9:00am to 2:00pm on December 6 of 2014 at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) at Mirpur in city.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Dr M Kaykobad, Chief Co-ordinator of ACM Council Bangladesh Professor Abul L Haque were in the judges’ panel of the contest along with Dr Abdul Matin Patwary, former Vice Chancellor of BUET, Professor M Abu Saleh, BUBT Vice Chancellor.

Registrar Enayet Hossain Mia, BUBT Dean of Applied Science and Engineering Mominul Haque, Computer Science and Engineering Chairman Raisul Alamin also were present. BUBT is the organizer of the contest for the first time.

ACM-ICPC is an annual multi-tiered competition among the universities of the world.

There are 13 different sites in Asia that host Asia Regional Final and Dhaka is one of them.

Each year winner of the Asia Regional Final Dhaka Site Contest advances to ACM-ICPC World Final.

Like other sites of ICPC, Dhaka site contest is also sponsored by IBM and operated under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

The champion team of these regional contests will get the chance to participate the world final that is scheduled to be held in 2015.

The world champion will be awarded a crest where top 3 will awarded with medal and top 10 will get cash as prize.
