UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA: At least 40 students have been injured in inter-hall clashes at University of Dhaka (DU) early Friday.
However, the condition of three among the victims is critical.
Sources told banglanews that the clashes erupted around 2:00am between two groups of members of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall and Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall of the university centering trivial matter.
At least 40 students, including Rustam, Arnob, Jahir of Ziaur Rahman Hall and Jitu and Mahmud of Jashim Uddin Hall along with the president of the hall’s Chhatra League unit Abu Salman Shaon, were injured at that time, sources added.
Later, according to them, DU proctor AM Amzad, one hour later, brought the situation under control.
On the other hand, amongst the victims, Rustam, Arnob and Jahir were critically injured, claimed Ziaur Rahman Hall sources.
Shahbagh Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam, confirming the clashes, said that the injured students are undergoing treatment at the university medical center and Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Nevertheless, the situation is now under control, he added.
